We are thrilled to share the highlights of our recent visit to Toronto from February 9th to 14th, 2025, as part of the Innovate UK Global Incubator Programme, in collaboration with MaRS Discovery District. This trip was a pivotal step in Sky-Drones’ journey to expand our presence in the Canadian market, connect with key stakeholders, and explore opportunities within the advanced manufacturing and uncrewed aerial vehicle (UAV) sectors.

Our team had the privilege of engaging with several prominent organizations and institutions, each playing a crucial role in shaping the future of innovation and technology in Canada. Here are the key highlights from our visit:

Engaging with Leading Canadian Organizations

Dentons Canada

A major part of our trip involved exploring the legal frameworks and strategies needed to scale our operations in Canada. We had the pleasure of meeting with the team at Dentons Canada, who provided valuable insights into navigating the Canadian legal landscape. Their expertise will be essential as we continue to expand and develop our market presence, ensuring compliance and a strong foundation for future growth.

MaRS Discovery District

As North America’s largest urban innovation hub, MaRS Discovery District played a key role in facilitating our visit. We were fortunate to gain invaluable insights into the Canadian innovation landscape, particularly within the advanced manufacturing and UAV sectors. The team at MaRS, led by Hadeer Abdelhamid, Oksana Nikitenko, and Morgan Lorimer, played an instrumental role in organizing our market visit and connecting us with key local players. We are grateful for their continuous support and the opportunity to learn more about the vibrant ecosystem of innovation in Toronto.

Downsview Aerospace Innovation & Research (DAIR)

Another highlight of our visit was our engagement with Downsview Aerospace Innovation & Research (DAIR). This organization is at the forefront of aerospace innovation, and we were excited to explore collaborative opportunities that could help us advance technological developments in the UAV field. During our visit to their site, we had the privilege of taking a tour of Centennial College, which is known for its focus on applied research and academic partnerships. Discussions centered around potential collaborations on cutting-edge research and new technology for UAV systems. We look forward to exploring how we can work together with DAIR to push the boundaries of what’s possible in aerospace innovation.

A Step Toward Collaborative Innovation in Canada

This visit was a significant milestone in Sky-Drones’ efforts to establish a deeper connection with the Canadian tech ecosystem. Through meaningful discussions, collaborations, and the sharing of knowledge and expertise, we’ve laid the groundwork for exciting future developments in the UAV and advanced manufacturing sectors. Our participation in the Innovate UK Global Incubator Programme has opened doors to new opportunities and partnerships, and we are optimistic about what lies ahead.

We are particularly excited about the possibility of collaborating on innovative UAV technology with Canadian academic institutions, industry leaders, and aerospace experts. The exchange of ideas during our trip has set the stage for future projects and innovations that could shape the future of autonomous aerial systems both in Canada and globally.

Looking Ahead: Opportunities for Growth and Innovation

As we reflect on our Toronto visit, we are energized by the potential that lies ahead. We are committed to contributing to Canada’s growing tech ecosystem and aerospace industry, which has emerged as a global hub for innovation. Our presence at MaRS Discovery District, DAIR, and other key institutions has opened exciting avenues for collaboration, enabling us to be at the forefront of technological advancements in the UAV space.

We would like to express our sincere gratitude to Innovate UK, MaRS Discovery District, and all of our Canadian partners for their unwavering support and collaboration throughout this visit. We are excited about the future opportunities we can build together and are eager to make a meaningful impact in the Canadian market.
